  1. 7 Unique Outdoor Activities for a Summer Outing

    Outdoor Activities

There’s nothing quite like a day outside enjoying the trees, grass and flowers while soaking in the sunshine and smelling the clean, fresh air.

In fact, science shows that being outdoors has many benefits, including:

    • Promoting an active, healthy lifestyle

    • Lowering the risk of depression

    • Aiding in psychological recovery

    • Improving focus and energy

    • Reducing pollution

That’s a whole host of reasons why you should incorporate time outdoors into your weekly activities, particularly during the warm summer days. We put together a list of 7 unique ideas for a summer outing, the kinds of things that will make the experience memorable and enjoyable for you and your loved ones.

    Pack a Picnic

    1) Pack a picnic and head to a state or national park.

Picnics are a summertime activity we all know and love. Why not take it to the next level by heading to a state or national park instead of your usual neighborhood spot? You can find a list of national parks here. Then, pack a healthy lunch in a backpack, as well as water, sunscreen, bug spray and other necessities. Find a trail in the park that suits your ability level and head into the wild wilderness for a picnic you won’t soon forget!

    Goat Yoga

    2) Find a new level of motivation with goat yoga.

Goats. Yoga. No, it’s not a joke. Goat yoga is an actual thing where you join a yoga class that includes interactions with goats. It may sound pretty far-fetched, but it’s actually a fun way to get your yoga in while enjoying the added benefits of interacting with animals. If you’re feeling adventurous, this activity is definitely worth a try.

    Nordic Walking

    3) Improve your balance with Nordic walking.

Nordic walking is the summer version of Nordic skiing. It involves using special poles and moving in a certain way to improve posture, strength and flexibility. It’s especially beneficial for improving strength as it works 80% of your body’s muscles—both upper body and lower body. Plus, it simultaneously works your cardiovascular system, giving you an all-around excellent workout and something to talk about at dinner later.

    Paddle boating

    4) Enjoy a unique view of the water via a paddleboat.

One way to enjoy the water in a neighborhood park without getting wet is by hopping into a paddleboat. Many parks have rentals that give you an hour of paddle boating for a reasonable price. You’ll get to see the lake from a unique perspective while also getting a heck of a leg workout!

    Dogpark

    5) Spend quality time with your pooch at a local dog park.

Give your pup a treat by heading to a nearby dog park. They’ll love running around interacting with other dogs while you enjoy sitting and watching their antics. Dog parks are also an excellent place to get exercise by throwing a frisbee or jogging alongside your dog as he explores.

    Pickleball

    6) Try your hand at the trendy new sport pickleball.

Pickleball is all the rage in many parts of the country. This wildly popular, fun, new sport combines tennis, badminton and table tennis and involves hitting a ball over a net. People of all ages can (and do!) enjoy this sport, which you can play indoors or outdoors.

    Photo Scavenger Hunt

    7) Organize a photo scavenger hunt.

One of the simplest but definitely not dullest things you can do outside is a photo scavenger hunt. Photo scavenger hunts are easy to organize and a blast to do with your friends, family members or even as an individual! Simply put together a list of items, grab your phone and head outside to find and snap photos of each item. First one to find everything wins!

Ultimately, getting outdoors can mean more than walking around the block or sitting at a local park. This list of fun activities will elevate your adventures and give you something pleasant to remember in the process!
